Stockholders Approve Delta & Northwest Airlines Merger!

Well Peachtree City Residents, it happened yesterday, September 25th.  The news broke back in April and now Delta and Northwest Stockholders have overwhelmingly approved the proposal for the merger of Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines.  Here are the facts.  Delta stockholders approved the issuance of 1.25 shares of Delta common stock for each outstanding share of Northwest stock to be distributed upon closing of the merger, expected sometime later this year. The proposal was approved by approximately 99 percent of the votes cast by Delta stockholders.  Also, more than 98 percent of the votes cast by Northwest stockholders were in favor of the merger.

Bailout or Rescue Plan? A Pig with Lipstick is still a Pig! It’s still $700 Billion!

Whether you live in Peachtree City or anywhere around the world, by now you have heard about the $700 Billion Dollar proposed bailout plan.  Not only that, if you are like most folks you have set aside partisan politics because this will affect not only us but our children and grandchildren for years to come!  Folks, even the staunch republicans are distancing themselves from Bush on passing this legislation without even judicial oversight.  John McCain has even contacted Barack Obama to call off the campaign (including Friday’s debates) so he can get back to Washington to work on this legislation.  

Peachtree City Classic Road Race To Be Held On October 18, 2008

The next question that come to mind is: Whom can you trust?  How do you pick an agent?  Will they stick it to me?  How will I know if I’m getting the biggest bang for my buck?  How much house can I really afford?

Doom For the Dollar???

I know what you are all thinking but afraid to say out loud.   With all that is happening in our financial markets, Is the colapse of the dollar next?  And what you really want to know is why the dollar may be declining and if so, how do you protect your own nest egg. 

Okay for the brave one, lets take a good look while many others still have their eyes wide shut.  The dollar declines when it loses value in relationship to other foreign currencies like the euro.  So when this occurs, our good old George Washingtons can buy fewer foreign goods thus increasing the price for imports and causing..you guessed it, Inflation!  Then look out as many investors with U.S. Treasury bonds begin to sell off their good ole American dollar-denominated holdings.

Wall Street awakes to 2 storied firms falling
 2 storied Wall Street firms fall as US financial markets roiled by further shock waves

 NEW YORK (AP) — When Wall Street woke up Monday morning, two more of its storied firms had fallen.Lehman Brothers, burdened by $60 billion in soured real-estate holdings, filed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition in U.S. Bankruptcy Court after attempts to rescue the 158-year-old firm failed. Bank of America Corp. said it is snapping up Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. in a $50 billion all-stock transaction.

Chairman Frank and HUD Secretary Preston Negotiate DPA Agreement

Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, Barney Frank, has discussed publicly the fact that he has negotiated an agreement with HUD Secretary Steve Preston that will provide for the continuation of privately funded downpayment assistance.

The agreement allows HUD to impose risk-based pricing on downpayment assistance transactions which provides Secretary Preston the fiscal protection he seeks for the FHA insurance fund.

Panasonic To Close Stereo Plant in Peachtree City

Panasonic Automotive Systems Company the largest private employer in Peachtree City is closing its manufacturing plant and shifting operations to the Reynosa, Mexico facility. The plant shut down will result in 500 workers losing jobs.

Panasonic currently employs 11,000 workers. The company says the shutdown will start in early 2009 and finish by the end of that year. Approximately 600 jobs will remain in Peachtree City, which is the company’s regional headquarters. The company supplies most major car manufacturers and component firms with auto entertainment and information systems.

Bailout Effect of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac

Okay folks its happened, the Bush administration, acting to avert the potential for major financial turmoil says the federal government was taking control of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.  In doing so, it was also announced that both execs from these institutions were being replaced.  The replacements will be Herb Allison, a former vice chairman of Merrill Lynch, to head up Fannie and David Moffett, a former vice chairman of US Bancorp, will run Freddie.
